Baghdad, Sept.2 (AKnews)-***** Al-Iraqiya bloc, led by ex-premier Ayad Allawi, has already suggested nine candidates***** for the Defense Ministry***** and PM Nouri al-Maliki should choose one of them,***** an al-Iraqiya MP said today.
*****Wahda al-Jamili’s remarks came in response *****to some media reports that said *****al-Iraqiya will name more candidates for the Ministry,***** al-Iraqiya's share.*****
The ministries of interior and national security are still run temporary by Maliki. The minister of culture, Saadun al-Dalimi, is also acting defense minister.
Political disputes between National Coalition (NC) which supports PM and al-Iraqiya have suspended the assignment of candidates to these ministries as of December, when the new Iraqi government was formed after nine months of delay.
MP Jamili told AKnews in its last meeting al-Iraqiya stressed it has no intention to name new candidates for the Defense Ministry.
The bloc expects PM to choose one of the nine candidates al-Iraqiya has decided on recently.
The MP accused Maliki of ‘exploiting the suspended ministry.’
‘There are civil, military and political figures among the candidates but Maliki is exploiting the vacant post of the defense minister so that he can unilaterally issue security orders.’
Al-Iraqiya MP expected the cabinet term may end without the security posts assigned to ministers.
‘Maliki will be in command of the entire security system.’ Therefore, he is ‘liable for the readiness of the security forces before the U.S. forces withdrawal,’ MP Jamili added.
