Kurdistan Regional Government Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani has said that Kurdish delegates will only visit Iraqi capital Baghdad only after receiving the Kurdistan Region’s budget from the federal government.
“We are waiting for the promises made to the Kurds during the formation of the federal government to be fulfilled. First among them is delivering the budget of the region, before we start our negotiations with Baghdad in order to address all the issues between Erbil and Baghdad,” said Talabani on Saturday. Commenting on borrowing money from foreign countries, Talabani said that the KRG has presented a draft law and hopes that the Kurdistan Parliament will pass it enabling the KRG to borrow money from abroad within a legal framework. He also revealed the names of committee members which will investigate Kurdish officials accused of trading oil with Islamic State (IS). “The committee has been created by the Kurdish Ministries Council including Natural Resource, Interior and Peshmerga Ministries as well as the general directorate of Kurdistan Security,” added Talabani. Many meetings have been held to investigate case, but Talabani refused to give more details about the duties of the committee.
