Erbil, Sept. 4 (AKnews) -***** Iran is upset that the president of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani***** has declined "several" invitations to pay a visit to the Islamic Republic*****, says Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)'s Iran representative Abdullah Akrayee.*****
A KRG delegation visited Iran on August 25 to tackle the issue of Iran's cross border artillery shelling on Kurdish territories near the border that was headed by Nechirvan Barzani, Massoud Barzani's nephew and his deputy in the leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
"During the visit, Iranian officials emphasized on the need for Barzani to visit Iran and tath he has been several times invitee by Iranian authorities to Tehran, but Barzani has declined to visit the country" Akrayee told Aknews.
*****Iranian officials have, according to Akrayee,***** stressed on the need for the visit to be paid by Barzani,***** "but he has not yet showed consent"*****
Iran has stepped up bombardments of the border territories of Kurdistan Region over the past three months that have killed four civilians so far. Last year, a teenage girl was also killed in the shelling in northern Erbil province.
Iran claims to target hideouts of a separatist Kurdish group, the Party of a Free Life For Kurdistan (PJAK).
