FM briefs cabinet on Higher Committee meetings with Bahrain, Iraq

KUWAIT, Dec 29 (KUNA) -- First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Monday briefed the cabinet on the outcome of the preparatory meeting of the 8th Joint Higher Committee with Bahrain.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled also offered the meeting, held at Seif Palace under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, an account of his recent visit to Iraq, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said.
The Kuwaiti-Bahraini Higher Committee, held within the framework of the principles and goals of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), focused on means of bolstering bilateral ties and strategic partnership in all fields for the good of the peoples in both.
Foreign Minister has recently led the country's delegation to meetings of the 4th Kuwaiti-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee, which discussed means of enhancing bilateral ties on all levels.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled informed the cabinet of his talks on the sidelines of the Committee meeting with Iraqi President Fuad Masum, Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi, and other senior officials.
Bilateral ties and regional and international topics of common concern featured high on the agenda of these meetings.
Meanwhile, the cabinet approved and submitted to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah two draft bills, to be later referred to the National Assembly, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah said.
The first is a decree for issuing the executive regulation of law 39/2010 on founding Kuwaiti joint stock companies to be tasked with setting up power stations and water desalination plants. The other bill is an amendment to article 241 of the Kuwait Code of Criminal Procedure 17/1960.
At the beginning of the routine meeting, the cabinet was informed of a letter from Director of the Arab Women Organization and Egypt's National Council for Women Mervat Tellawi to His Highness the Amir congratulating him on the UN honoring, naming him a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait a "Humanitarian Center," Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs noted.
Tellawi also urged Kuwait to join the Arab Organization.
The cabinet congratulated His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the Kuwaiti people as well as all Muslims on the occasion of Prophet Mohammed's Birthday, falling on Saturday, and also on the new year.
It prayed for stability, security and peace for Kuwait and the Arab and the Muslim Nations.
Today's meeting discussed the main topics on the agenda of the coming National Assembly sessions.
Reviewing the political developments on the Arab and international scenes, the cabinet congratulated Tunisia's Beji Caid Essebsi on wining the presidential race, wishing the country progress, welfare and stability. (end) msa
