Italian President steps down today
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Rinci said on Tuesday that President Giorgio Napolitano would step down within hours.
The president, aged 89 years, has reluctantly agreed to take on a second term in 2013 after an inconclusive election threatened to leave Italy in the case of political confusion, said last month that he would resign soon because of the trouble associated with his age.
According to the Italian constitution, it is in the absence of the President of the Senate takes over temporarily and opens the door to run until the new President is elected by the parliament, at a special meeting held for this purpose.
Italian Constitution also provides that any Italian citizen who has attained the age of fifty, and enjoy civil and political rights of the right to run for president, and must be approved by two-thirds of the parliament in the first three operations vote, As for the voting process and subsequent content with an absolute majority.
