Efforts to enhance transparency of Iraqi Kurdistan’s oil revenues

ERBIL-Hewler, Kurdistan region ‘Iraq’,— Kurdistan economy Development Organization in collaboration with the US Agency for International Development in Erbil conducted on Thursday, discussions about the two bills on the oil and gas sector in order to show more transparency of revenues and the law of social support control.
Kurdistan’s economy Development Organization, in collaboration with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) by launching the defense project of strengthening transparency and accountability on oil and gas revenues in the general budget to support the people of Kurdistan.
The Director-General of the Economy Development Organization of Kurdistan, Hassan Hakim said in a statement that” Kurdistan Region currently have a place on the world map of energy.”
He pointed out that despite the fact that the region is currently undergoing an economic crisis, but this should not prevent from working to enhance transparency in the sector.
He stressed that the region needs laws to be issued by Kurdistan Parliament, pointing out that the draft laws are in Parliament as oil revenue fund law in Kurdistan and Social Support Project Control Act.
Hassan noted that the organization is working on this project since 2012, saying it wants to work on issuing these laws to their importance to the people of the region.
A number of members of Kurdistan Parliament , economists and representatives of monitoring bodies in the region participated in launching the project.
Many Kurdish politicians and Observers believe that many of the oil industry projects in Iraqi Kurdistan are conducted in a non-transparent way. Some have even described them as secretive.
