Jeffrey: US will not allow Qaeda to control Iraq
Wednesday, June 01, 2011 13:22 GMT
US Ambassador to Iraq James Jeffrey affirmed that the United States will not allow for Al Qaeda, Iran and related militias to control Iraq after US Forces withdrawal from the country.
While Jeffrey fears this scenario in Iraq, he stressed that Washington will not allow any party to execute it.
The US Ambassador rebuked the recent march of Mehdi Army and argued that Al Sadr’s threat to attack US Forces overcomes the legitimacy of Iraq’s Parliament given that these forces are present by the consent of the government and the Parliament.
Iraq’s government should not allow any kinds of militias in the country no matter what the pretexts are since it would legalize militias for other parties, Jeffrey said.
This is alarming since it could lead to the destruction of Iraq, he concluded.
