Two companies from Iraq and the UK have launched Kashmara 1 residential project in the Southern Iraqi Dhi Qar governorate after resolving land offences by the residents in the area, an Iraqi news agency reported on Wednesday.
Al Mansour Company for Constructional Contracts, an affiliate of Iraq’s construction and housing ministry, and the UK’s Sections Contracting & Trading Company kicked off the project to construct 716 apartments on Tuesday after they were awarded the 108 million dinar ($92 million) contract in late 2014, Shafaq said.
“The two companies launched work on Tuesday by moving equipment to the area and laying the foundation stone for the project,” it said, adding that Dhi Qar’s governor Hameed Al Ghazi visited the site on Tuesday.
It quoted Al Ghazi as saying the local government is planning to build a second residential complex next to Kashmara 'on an investment basis.'
Officials have earlier said Kashmara 1, one of several residential projects designed to tackle a housing crisis, would be completed within 900 days.
