Iraq, Iran form agricultural workgroup to implement agreements

Iran explored ways to boost agricultural ties with Iraq...."Iran and Iraq signed an agreement in February on raw animal products health and agreed to form an agricultural workgroup to implement the agreements," said Iranian Minister of Agriculture in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Falah Hassan al-Zaidan here in Tehran. He said there are considerable potentials for private sectors of the two countries to work on agriculture, and Iran can share its experiences with Iraqi experts and officials on agriculture. "We have professional experts on training who can share their new scientific achievements with Iraqi experts." Falah Hassan al-Zaidan, for his part, said, "Iraq is using new watering methods and modern technology for fish cultivation, but we need Iran's experiences to boost our products."
He further said that Iraq plans to increase wheat and barley production through cooperation with Iran, adding that 50 percent of its wheat and 20 percent of its barley were produced in northern provinces which have now turned into the battle fields."
He said that Iraq plans to cultivate wheat in southern parts of Iraq which face shortage of water, as calling for formation of joint committee and seminar to discuss watering methods.
The two sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on plant quarantine regulations and fighting pests and diseases.
