Kuwait Shuaiba refinery will close permanently in April 2017

The official spokesman for the government of Kuwait National Petroleum Company said on Sunday that Kuwait Shuaiba refinery, which will close its production capacity to 200 thousand barrels per day - which is smaller in KUWAIT final in April 2017 due to obsolescence and running ahead of environmental fuel project in mid-2018.
Shuaiba produces light, medium and heavy refinery products, including regular motor gasoline and naphtha, kerosene, fuel oil and gas oil.
Khalid added Asousi in the press conference held today in Kuwait "Shuaiba refinery will close in April 2017 in preparation for the operation of environmental fuel project by mid-2018."
There are in Kuwait three oil refineries with a total capacity of about 930 thousand barrels per day from 200 thousand barrels of Shuaiba refinery, the oldest refinery in Kuwait and 270 thousand barrels of refinery Abdullah Port and 260 thousand barrels of Al-Ahmadi refinery.
Asousi said: "We need Shuaiba refinery tanks for use in the operation of environmental fuel project."
The environmental project is the development of fuel refineries of Al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah and includes the construction of 39 new units and modernization of seven units and the closure of seven other units with a focus on the production of high-value products such as diesel fuel and kerosene for export.
Asousi explained that 30 percent of the funding for environmental fuel project will come from the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and the rest from local and foreign banks.
He said, "So far we have spent 982 million dinars in the project of the total 4.6 billion dinars. The percentage of completion of the project amounted to 36.7 percent so far and will reach 40 percent within a month. "
