Beirut, June 9 (AKnews) – Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will not change his government as a result of the 100-day moratorium, Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi believes.
In response to a question about the possibility of initiating ministerial amendments Nujaifi said today, "I do not think so."
"The Parliament will hold a meeting on Sunday and we will discuss the political situation and the developments and I hope that some successful steps have been achieved within the 100 days”, Nujaifi said.
On February 27, Maliki set the 100-day deadline, saying that assessments of ministerial performance would be conducted and pledging that “changes will be made” based on the findings.
With further public protests announced on Friday, the pressure on the PM to demonstrate concrete signs of achievement increases.
Nujaifi was speaking when he arrived at Beirut International Airport, leading a parliamentary delegation of 16 MPs from different blocs.
Nujaifi met with his Lebanese counterpart, Nabih Berri, and discussed bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
