Iraqi authorities to execute Tariq Aziz next year
Dec 6, 2011 06:20 Moscow Time
The Iraqi authorities will execute former foreign minister, 75 year-old Tariq Aziz, sentenced to death, the following year. By that time U.S. troops should have been withdrawn from the country, reports CNN with reference to an adviser of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
"It will most definitely happen, and it will happen after the Americans leave Iraq," - said a spokesman for al-Maliki.
In the course of many years Tariq Aziz was a key figure in the Iraqi leadership, and the only Christian in President Saddam Hussein’s entourage. In October 2010 a court sentenced Aziz to death for involvement in 1999 massacres of Shiite Muslims. (RIAN)
