Maliki invites Egyptian PM al-Ganzouri to Iraq

Cairo, Dec. 29 (AKnews) – Iraq’s Nouri al-Maliki has invited Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri to visit Iraq to consolidate ties between the two nations.
Iraq’s Minister of Housing and Reconstruction, Mohammed Saheb, who is in Cairo for an Arab League’s meeting, told a press conference on Thursday that he personally handed an invitation letter from al-Maliki to al-Ganzouri.
On Tuesday, Egypt and Iraq agreed on the establishment of two Egyptian-Iraqi companies in transport and electricity generation sectors.
Saheb told the conference, following a meeting with al-Ganzouri, that Maliki has called on the Egyptian PM in his letter to “Start a new page of mutual cooperation between the two nations and end outstanding issues”
Iraqi government owes some US$400 million in wages to owed to Egyptians who worked in Iraq in the 1980s. But the government said earlier this month that it will not be able to pay this year the money due to shortfalls in the 2012 budget.
Al-Darraji said He has held talks with al-Jandaouri about entry facilities for Egyptian investors into Iraq to do business there.
