BAGHDAD, Jan.20 (AKnews)- Turkish officials deal with Iraqi political parties in a sectarian frame, a deputy from Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's State of Law Coalition told AKnews.

AKnews asked Sami Asakri who is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee at the Iraqi House of Representatives about the allegations of Turkey's interference in Iraqi affairs and SLC member replied "Yes. Turkey interfered…. and adopted a sectarian approach."

Relations between Turkey and Iraq strained after issuance of an arrest order for Iraqi Vice President Tareq Hashemi on terrorism charges. VP who maintains strong relations with Turkey denied the charges, accusing Maliki of politicizing the case.

Following the order and the ensuing turmoil, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned about the prospect of a civil war in Iraq, which Maliki refuted and considered as interference in Iraqi internal affairs.

Ankara further welcomed Hashemi in case he wished to travel to Turkey. This while the VP has travel sanctions enraged Iraqi officials who still demand Iraqi Kurdistan regional authority to hand over Hashemi to Baghdad for trail.

In a televised interview Iraqi PM warned that Turkish intervention in the affairs of the states in the region will lead to catastrophes- a statement which Ömer Çelik, the vice president for the Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) described as "unwise."

Speaking to AKnews on the phone, SLC member Asakri said that both Iraq and Turkey should stage dialog to settle their differences.

He thought that Turkey would better accentuate on boosting economic relations with Iraq.

Coinciding with the tensions, the Turkish Embassy in Baghdad was attacked with three rockets Wednesday. The attack was of no causalities or damages.
