Iraq auto industry booming as far as General Motors is concerned
POSTED ON 2012-01-24
It was way before the first Gulf War that US car manufacturer General Motors set up a manufacturing unit in Iraq. While the company has been struggling where sales were concerned all these years, the past year has been its reward for the number of years of toil and sweat that they put into production operations in the country.
General Motors company which once trailed behind other auto companies where sales were concerned has now sold over 35,000 vehicles in Iraq during 2011. This is a notable figure when you take into consideration that entire auto sales in Iraq stood at 115,000 during 2011.
General Motors mainly concentrated on sales of SUVs and pickup trucks though a large number of Chevrolets and Cadillac sedans were sold as well. It is a well known fact that Iraqis prefer larger cars and SUVs and it is only natural that these large and luxury cars have seen favor among Iraqi buyers.
