Baghdad (AIN)–MP, Baha Jamal al-Din, of the State of Law Coalition, called the Iraqi Government to reconsider its relations with Turkey and its companies that are working in Iraq.
In a statement on Wednesday, Jamal al-Din stated “Turkey and the Turkish companies are getting benefit from the economic situation in Iraq. So, we call the government to have a stance toward the Turkish interests in Iraq as a reaction over the statements of the Turkish President who described Iraqi government as sectarian.”
“This attitude must not be adopted by a neighboring country as Turkey due to its economic and commercial interests in Iraq which are estimated in billions of USD,” he added.
“About 12% of 2011 budget is for the economic and commercial exchange rate in Iraq where ten Million USD go as benefits to Turkish economy in addition to more than sixty Turkish companies and more than two thousand Turkish workers in Basra which is considered one of the rich cities in Iraq,” he pointed out.
“We urge not to show flexibility in dealing with Turkish benefits in Iraq by facilitating the work of its companies and its diplomatic representation in order to prove that Iraqi government is taking care of Iraqi benefits and not sectarian, as they stated,” he concluded.
The relations between Iraq and Turkey witness clear tension after exchanging accusations between the Turkish Premier, Recep Tayib Erdogan and the Iraqi Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, when Erdogan warned from a sectarian and civil war in Iraq.
The Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, criticized the Turkish interferences in Iraq and warned from “A sectarion conflict that even Turkey will not survive."
Maliki stated “We know about the turkish interference, but lately in surprising way, the interference increased to include talking about Iraq as being controlled by another country,” with reference to Turkey. /End/
