BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq : Legal expert Tariq Harb said today that lifting immunity against the MP should be done with the majority of votes, pointing out the formation of a committee to lift the immunity is illegal and intervention in the judicial system.
Harb pointed out to Aswat al-Iraq that parliamentary intervention to study any case is illegal.
He added that lifting immunity does not mean to be a convict, but if not lifted, the legal procedures will be delayed till the end of the parliamentary round on 14 June 2014, when his immunity ends.
Legal Commission MP Mahmoud al-Hassan told Aswat al-Iraq, earlier, that a committee formed called "Lifting immunity Committee" that will study Iraqiya members Haidar al-Mulla and Saleem al-Jbour cases, then to be laid before the parliament for discussion whether the charges are right or not.
Higher Legislative Council submitted requests to the parliament to lift the immunity from three MPs in order to investigate their cases.
On his side, Mulla stressed that he is "ready to abide by the law despite his parliamentary immunity".
