Baghdad - Unemployment in Iraq has dropped by 3% since 2008, Iraq's Ministry of Planning said Saturday.
Planning Ministry's Central Statistics Agency (CSA) said Saturday that unemployment in Iraq is currently at its lowest level in four years dropping from 15 % in 2008 to 12% this year.
Director of the CSA Mahdi al-Allaq said despite the decrease, unemployment still was a major issue in the country partly because the private secotr was weak and partilay becduase the people think that only government employment is the solution.
"The private sector is still weak. Iraq has to promote [foreign] investment to provide jobs for the country's young manpower which could greatly narrow down the number of the unemployed"
