Baghdad (NINA) – President Jalal Talabani participate d in the celebration held on Monday afternoon, July 4, by the American Embassy in Baghdad on the 235th anniversary of the US Independence Day.
A statement issued by the President’s Office quoted Talabani saying in the Festival, “Today’s celebration is an opportunity to recall the principles held by George Washington and are strengthened by Thomas Jefferson; such principles became the base of the US Constitution, the first written constitution in modern days.”
Talabani went on saying, “We owe to the United States for equipping and training our armed forces, as well as helping reconstruct our country’s economy and modernizing it.”
He pointed out, “The force withdrawal agreement and the Frame Agreement consolidated strong contractual relations between our two countries; we are confident that these agreements will be developed and consolidated in the interest of our two people.”
Talabani concluded, “We are confident that human and natural wealth alongside strong democracy will make Iraq a pivotal country in the region; we are full of hope that our friends in the United States and other friendly countries will be a strength and aid to us in our march.”
