Baghdad, July 17 (AKnews) – Al-Iraqiya has condemned Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s comments yesterday dismissing the chance of creating the National Council for Strategic Policies.
List spokesman Haider Mulla said: "We want to see adherence to the agreement and we don't believe that State of Law and the National Coalition [which the PM heads] are satisfied with Maliki's recent comments."
Yesterday the prime minister said in an interview with Iraqiya TV that the policies council, a major component of the Erbil agreement, was not practically applicable and that the National Coalition will block its implementation.
The Iraqiya list led by former prime minister Ayad Allawi accuses Maliki of failing to comply with the agreement that allowed him to stay on as premier despite winning fewer seats than the Allawi.
The council would be another executive tier that would be able to propose legislation and modify laws.
