Talabani: it is necessary for Turkmans to hold high level state positions

Baghdad (NINA) – President Jalal Talabani expressed full support for the Turkmans to realize their legitimate demands.
A statement issued on Wednesday, July 20, by the President’s Office quoted Talabani while meeting with a delegation representing the Turkman Front, headed by Arshad al-Salihi, saying, “Whenever we support this major Iraqi component, this will reflect positively on Iraq and consolidates peaceful co-existence between Iraq’s ethnic, religious and sectarian components.”
Talabani added, “It is necessary for the Turkmans to hold high level posts in the state, especially in Diyala and Niniveh, as they do in Kirkuk.”
In a statement to the press after the meeting, Talabani described his meeting with the Turkmans delegation by saying, “We have exchanged opinions over lifting unjust the Turkman are suffering from and we have agreed to work together toward reinstate their legitimate rights. Turkmans represent Iraq’s third largest ethnic group, it must enjoy its rights alongside Arabs and Kurds.”
For his part, Salihi praise Talabani’s stance in supporting the Turkmans’ rights hoping that promises to Turkmans become a reality, suggesting the formation of a joint committee charged with solving outstanding issues. / End.
