WorleyParsons has been awarded a US$90 million contract extension by BP Iraq and its partners PetroChina and the State Oil Marketing Organization of the Republic of Iraq, to continue providing engineering, procurement and management services for the Rumaila oilfield expansion. The field is located in southern Iraq, about 20 kilometers from the Kuwaiti border.
The US$15 billion expansion will triple oil output at the field to 2.85 million barrels of oil per day over the next six years, the Australian engineering company said in a statement. When completed, Rumaili will become the world’s second largest producing oil field behind Ghawar in Saudi Arabia, and will contribute about 10 percent of Middle East production and 3 percent of global production.
WorleyParsons' offices in London, UAE and Iraq are handling the work.
