The Head of the Italian Consular Office in Erbil, Mr Carmelo Ficarra, met with Head of KRG Department of Foreign Relations, Minister Falah Mustafa, today to speak about the growing interest and engagement from Italian companies.
Italian companies are currently involved in several key projects in Kurdistan, including in the revitalisation plan of the Citadel in Erbil and individual initiatives with the Region’s universities, including Duhok and Salahaddin.
During the meeting today both sides touched on ways of attracting more Italian companies to Kurdistan. They also spoke about forthcoming political and trade delegations, including significant presence in the upcoming Erbil International Fair.
Minister Falah Mustafa said that cooperation with the Italian Government has increased over the last several years and underlined the KRG’s open-door policy with the international community more generally. He said, ‘The increase in bilateral ties is due to the close cooperation between Kurdistan and Italy, and I believe the Consular Office in Erbil has played an important role in this endeavour.’
The officials also highlighted the need to promote further exchange of visits by facilitating visas in Erbil for the local officials, businesses and students.
Mr Ficarra said that participation of Italian companies in the Project Iraq International Exhibition in October has doubled – 70 companies will participate in the annual fair. He said, ‘Our aim is to increase business relations with the Region.’
Minister Mustafa also spoke about political developments in Kurdistan, Iraq and the greater region, as well as the Kurdish National Congress – emphasizing that key intention is to send a message of peace and co-existence.
