Baghdad, Aug. 11 (AKnews) - The State of Law Coalition (SLC) led by the Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Thursday that the tripartite committee responsible for resolving the outstanding issues between the political blocs will today present the names of candidates for security ministries to the leaders of the blocs.
Al-Iraqiya submitted the names of three candidates for the defense ministry to the Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki – according to media sources they are, General Ali Medhat al-Obeidi, Brigadier General Hamid Dawoud al-Obeidi and retired Major General Loay Naji Tbakjla.
The ruling National Coalition agreed to submit three candidates for the post of Interior Minister - they are, commander of Middle Euphrates operations Gen. Othman Ghanimi, federal police chief Maj. Gen. Hussein Awadi and General Muzher al-Mawla.
Ali al-Shallah of SLC told AKnews that the political blocs must agree on the nomination of two candidates for the defense and interior ministries.
The leaders of the political blocs agreed at a meeting at the house of President Jalal Talabani on August 2 to cancel all the names previously put forward as candidates and nominate alternative personalities to be submitted to the Prime Minister quickly to resolve the issue of security ministries within two weeks.
Maliki currently holds the positions within the security ministries after he was granted the power to do so last year and promised to find candidates within two days. However, moths of disagreement between the political factions has meant the positions remain unfilled.
