The Head of the Department of Foreign Relations, Minister Falah Mustafa, this week welcomed Mihaita Ena, the new Head of Romania’s Consular Office in Erbil and expressed his hope of seeing more interaction between their two countries.
Minister Mustafa congratulated Mr Ena on his appointment and assured him of the Department’s readiness to work closely to further strengthen ties with Romania. He said, ‘It is my pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Kurdistan enjoys good ties with Romania thanks in large part to the presence of the Consular Office here in Erbil and the Embassy in Baghdad. I assure you that you have the DFR’s full support and look forward to working closely with you during your tenure here.’
Mr Ena said he was pleased to be working in the Kurdistan Region and said he would work towards fostering deeper ties with Kurdistan across all sectors. He explained the strengths and opportunities that Romania can offer to assist the Kurdistan Region’s development. Mr Ena also expressed his hope that his presence can help pave the way for increased economic and trade relations between Romania and Kurdistan.
In November last year, the Romanian Foreign Minister, Titus Corlăţean, made an official visit to the Kurdistan Region which culminated in the official opening of the Romanian Consular Office in Erbil. Minister Mustafa visited Romania at the start of this month.
These senior level visits have been instrumental in moving the relationship forward. Minister Mustafa concluded by saying, ‘We are pleased at the level of our relations with Romania and we hope to see more interaction between both sides.’
