US Consultations for Interministerial Committee Reforming Iraq Import Documentation Requirements
March 4, 2014 - March 13, 2014
CLDP, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration (ITA) and the Iraqi Ministry of Trade (MoT), will hold consultations in Washington, D.C. on March 5-12, 2014 for a delegation of ten Iraqi officials to support the Government of Iraq’s efforts to streamline Iraqi import documentation requirements. The delegation will observe, in the field, origin determinations; classifications and valuations; appeals from customs decisions; coordination among agencies implementing import regulations; and cooperation with the private sector to reduce the influx of counterfeit goods into the country
The goal of the consultations will be to identify alternatives for Iraq to the use of non-preferential certificates of origin, and to the use of counselorization requirements for customs documents. The U.S. program will feature discussions with legal and technical customs experts, a visit to the Baltimore Port Authority, and visits to U.S. companies offering electronic solutions for customs processing.
