No. of Iraqi Students in US at All-Time High
The United States Embassy in Baghdad is pleased to note a 38.8 percent increase in the number of Iraqi students studying in the United States.
The 2013-2014 academic year saw the total number of Iraqi students enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities at 1,491, up from 1,074 in 2012-2013.
The report shows that 941 Iraqi students were enrolled in graduate-level degree programs, an increase of 41 percent from the previous year, while 212 students were pursuing undergraduate studies, and an additional 302 were enrolled in non-degree programs.
According to the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, published annually by the Institute of International Education (IIE) with support from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Iraqi students are part of a growing number of international students enrolled in higher education in the United States.
The Open Doors report finds the number of international students at colleges and universities in the United States increased by 8 percent to a record high of 886,052 students in the 2013-2014 academic year, confirming the United States continues to be the destination of choice for higher education.
The U.S. Embassy in Iraq sponsors and supports EducationUSA, a free service providing interested Iraqi students with accurate, comprehensive, and current information about how to apply to accredited U.S. colleges and universities.
