KRG Discusses War Crimes with Amnesty Int’l
Minister Falah Mustafa, Head of the KRG foreign relations and his accompanying delegation visited the Swedish Section of the Amnesty International to discuss human rights violations committed by the terrorists of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sahm (ISIS, ISIL, IS).
Mr. Mustafa stressed, “At times where our voices were not heard, Amnesty International and other international humanitarian organization were the channel that communicated our sufferings to the international community.”
He added, “We value our cooperation with the Amnesty International and we look forward to working together on finding facts and evidences on the crimes committed against Yezidis, Christians and other ethnic and religious minorities in Kurdistan Region by the terrorists.”
Considering the severe psychological trauma facing the Yezidi women who have been rescued from the ISIS barbarism, the KRG Minister called upon Amnesty International to encourage relevant non-governmental organizations to visit the Kurdistan Region to see how best they can contribute in the rehabilitation process of those freed Yezidi women.
Ms. Anna Lindenfors, Secretary General of the Swedish Section of Amnesty International, commended KRG for defending the rights of religious and ethnic minorities as well as sheltering hundreds of thousands of refugees and IDPs regardless of their ethnic and religious background.
She stated, “Amnesty International teams are currently on the ground investigating the crimes committed against ethnic and religious minorities. We have taken this case very seriously.”
Secretary General Lindenfors said, “We fully support KRG’s efforts in obtaining international recognition for crimes committed against minorities by terrorists as acts of genocide. We will do whatever we can to make sure that the perpetrators of these crimes are prosecuted to the full extent of the international law.”
Mr Karwan Jamal, Deputy Head of DFR, Mr. Shoresh Qadir, KRG Representative to Sweden, and Ms. Maja Aberg, Advocacy Officer at the Swedish Section of the Amnesty International attended the meeting.
