PM Barzani Receives UK Security Envoy
Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani, yesterday received the British Government’s Security Envoy to Kurdistan Region, Lieutenant General Sir Simon Mayall, and his accompanying delegation, which included the British Consul to Kurdistan Region, Angus McKee and a number of British military officers.
Lieutenant General Mayall said that the aim of his is to acquire a better understanding of the latest military developments in the fronts and also assess the Peshmerga forces’ needs and training programs, provided by the United Kingdom.
He described the recent victories that the Peshmerga forces have achieved, particularly in Sinjar and the surrounding areas, as very significant in the fight against the Islamic State terrorist organisation, ISIS.
The British Government Security Envoy to the Kurdistan Region demanded that the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs prepares a list of its military needs for the British relevant authorities examine it and assist the Peshmerga forces accordingly.
Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude to the British government, which is an leading member of the international coalition against ISIS.
He reiterated that the British military assistance, particularly training the Peshmerga forces, has been of great assistance. He expressed his hope that British government’s support to the Kurdistan Region will continue.
