Iraq shows interests in investment cooperation with Belarus
27 Jan 2015
Iraqi businessmen positively evaluate the opportunities for investment cooperation with Belarus, President of the Iraqi Chambers of Commerce and Industry Jaafar Al-Hamdani told journalists on 23 January, BelTA has learned.
“We are impressed with Belarus' investment climate. Many Iraqi businessmen want to invest money in Belarusian enterprises,” Mr. Jaafar Al-Hamdani noted.
He believes that in order to give impetus to the development of the Belarus-Iraq relations, it is necessary to ease the visa requirements, open a Belarusian consulate in Baghdad, and establish a direct air service between the capitals of the two states. In general, the Iraqi side showed interest in strengthening the economic cooperation with Belarus.
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Vladimir Ulakhovich promised to facilitate the implementation of all the initiatives coming from Iraqi businessmen. “The visit of the Iraqi delegations proves that we are actively working to diversify the export of Belarusian products in the global market. This business forum has been initiated by Iraq, which means that Iraqi businessmen consider Belarus as an important partner that can supply a wide choice of goods, including foodstuffs, construction materials, and equipment,” Vladimir Ulakhovich pointed out.
The Belarus-Iraq bilateral trade currently is not that big. However, Vladimir Ulakhovich is convinced that there are all the preconditions for growth.
