UN warns of health situation in Iraq
Amman, Mar.16
(Petra)-- World Health Organization (WHO) director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Alaa Alwan, warned of the deteriorating of health response in Iraq due lack of funds, where 5 million people are in need of health services.
Alwan pointed that the WHO and its partners can provide urgent medical services as soon as the funding is available, where Iraqi health sector needs $314.2 million to perform its role.
He said "The situation is alarming, While WHO and health partners are doing all we can to save lives, our efforts are hindered by insufficient funding. The longer we wait, the more critical the situation becomes for those who need urgent, life-saving health services. We urge the international donor community to act immediately to allow us to continue our work." //Petra//MF
