Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani received the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri and his delegation including Iraqi Vice President Osama al-Nujayfi in Erbil 18th March.
Barzani and al-Jabouri discussed the current political and security crisis in the Diyala, Anbar, Kirkuk, Salahaddin and Nineveh provinces and recognised the role played by the Peshmerga, Iraqi army and Shiite militias in confronting Islamic State (IS).
They concentrated on plans for the liberation of Mosul and other areas held by IS and outlined the challenges facing a post-IS Iraq.
Al-Nujayfi and President Barzani discussed the current situation in Iraq and the liberation of Mosul. International coalition jets have been dropping leaflets over Mosul, promising people that the liberation of the city is near.
On 19th March, al-Jabouri visited Halabja Province and expressed his readiness to provide a special budget for the province.
“We will provide a special budget to Halabja,” he said.
“IS is a threat to all of the country, Kurdistan Region needs federal government and vis-versa,” he added.
