Shiite leader Ameri vows to 'surprise US' with Anbar success

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Shiite leader Hadi Ameri, a top commander of the Hashd al-Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Units, has promised to clean Anbar province of ISIS fighters and “surprise America” by doing so. “We will surprise America by our fast and carefully planned liberation of Anbar and we need no one’s permission to do that,” Ameri, who also heads the Badr Organization, announced in a statement on Tuesday.
“People in Anbar are in a critical situation and we will not leave them alone. The protection of civilians in Anbar is our religious, moral and legal duty,” he added.
In a previous statement, Ameri had denounced new US bill now being debated in Washington that will directly arm and assist the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Sunni Arab tribes in the fight against the Islamic State.
In March, the Hashd al-Shaabi fighters played significant role in liberating Tikrit, Saddam Hussein’s hometown, fighting along with Iraqi forces and backed by US-led coalition airstrikes.
Iraqi security forces, local police, Iraqi federal police, anti-terror forces and at least 10,000 tribal gunmen are engaged in the fight against ISIS in the Sunni-dominated province of Anbar.
