Baghdad - Journal News
Financial committee committee chairman Ahmad Haji Rashid announced on Sunday that the central bank has decided to stop opening branches in Arbil and Sulaymaniyah due to the referendum scheduled for September 25
"The central bank ended last month the opening of two branches in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah," Rashid said in a statement to the Journal News. "The bank suspended these procedures because of the date of holding a referendum in Kurdistan and its fears of aggravating the problems between Baghdad and Erbil."
He added that "citizens in Kurdistan could have benefited from the branches of the Central Bank of Arbil and Sulaymaniyah without the decision to hold the referendum."
The Central Bank has announced the middle of this year opened two branches in Sulaymaniyah and Arbil.
