Allawi: Calls to establish Iraqi regions at this stage adds fuel to fire

Head of Iraqiya List Iyad Allawi stated, on Friday, that the establishment of federal regions at this stage is just like adding fuel to fire. Political sectarianism in Iraq is behind the call for regions’ establishment, Allawi pointed up noting that only dialogue could solve Kirkuk’s issues.
“Iraqi constitution stipulated the right to establish federal regions,” Iyad Allawi indicated during a meeting attended by Alsumarianews in Erbil with Kirkuk’s political figures as well as tribal Sheiks. “We are aware though that if federal regions were formed Iraq would be subject to clashes over administrative borders, wealth as well as oil and gas,” stressing the necessity to have a law that regulates wealth distribution.”
“This is not the right time to call for regions’ formation,” Allawi argued describing regions’ establishment at this stage as “adding fuel to fire.”
“It is necessary to engage in dialogue to solve Kirkuk’s issue which could never be resolved by killings and murders,” Allawi argued. “We are making every possible effort to support citizens in Kirkuk and ascertain stability in the province,” he added.
“Adopting Oil and Gas Law will contribute to solving 75% of Kirkuk’s problems,” Allawi accused certain parties without naming them of “trying to block the law’s approval in parliament.”
“Dividing Kirkuk’s issues can reach a final solution,” Allawi carried on. “Kirkuk is a combination of Arabs, Kurds, Turkmens, Christians, Sunnis as well as Shiites and the solution would be to please all these components,” he suggested. “The call for a federal region’s establishment in Kirkuk will spur many problems over wealth, water and administrative borders while complicating issues,” he explained.
“We should amend some of the constitution’s items and paragraphs,” Allawi called stating that “we do not all agree on the constitution and have our remarks, but switching from a problem to another dos not solve Iraq’s issues”, he concluded.
