National News Center / Special
The economic expert, Ahmed Al-Husseini, confirmed, today, Friday, that the smuggling of iron waste to Iran and Turkey through the region is estimated at thousands of tons.
Al-Husseini said in an interview with the National News Center that “the file of iron scrap smuggling has not been controlled by successive governments so far as a result of the presence of influential parties working within this file,” noting that
“the iron scrap goes through the region to Turkey and Iran in thousands of tons per month.”.
He added that "the iron cemeteries are spread in four provinces, and
there is supposed to be a government mechanism to hand them over to the steel and iron factories in Basra so that the country can benefit directly from them."
And he indicated that "the Iraqi law prevents the exit of iron in all its forms and shapes outside the country,
but there is a possession of these cemeteries that makes them unsafe for Iraqi laboratories and takes them abroad."
