A set of factors and reasons prompted Iraqis to buy real estate in neighboring countries, especially Turkey and Jordan, at a time when Iraqis' purchase numbers of real estate in some of those countries declined after reaching advanced levels in earlier times.
The head of the Financial and Banking Sciences Department at Al-Mustansiriya University, Ahmed Al-Husseini, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that
"there are a number of reasons that push Iraqi citizens to buy real estate or housing units in a number of neighboring countries, most notably Jordan and Turkey." Al-Husseini added,
"The expansion of the area of real estate purchase by Iraqis abroad is due to the fact that most Iraqis who bought real estate in neighboring countries took advantage of the different price differences for the property
or to obtain residency or citizenship of that country,
as is the case in Turkey, which announced that whoever deposits money Or he buys a property with a value of one hundred thousand dollars that grants Turkish citizenship,
thus pushing this to lead Iraqis to the lists of foreign buyers in those countries, as well as real estate prices in Iraqi cities more than in neighboring countries.
The latest data issued by the Jordanian Department of Land and Survey showed that Iraqis topped the list of foreign buyers with investments amounting to 88.8 million Jordanian dinars ($125.11 million).
While the Turkish Statistics Authority announced that Iraqis ranked third as the most people buying real estate in Turkey during the month of September. Al-Husseini pointed out that
"from other reasons, it is the factor of security and economic stability and distance from Iraq, in addition to the similarity of human natures between the two countries."
