Record expectations for wheat production in 2024 due to abundant rains... and trade reveals its reserves

{Economic: Al-Furat News} The Ministry of Commerce revealed that
it possesses a strategic reserve of wheat amounting to two million tons,
sufficient for the country for six months, revealing a
plan to increase the storage capacity of the crop, to nine million tons.
Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Department in the Ministry, Talib Hassan Nimah, said in a press statement,
“A committee has been formed to supervise the wheat marketing campaigns that will be launched in the governorates successively, starting next month.
All procedures for enhancing storage capacities, regular maintenance of the stores, and treating the damages in them have been completed, in addition to... About establishing banks in four governorates: Holy Karbala, Kirkuk, Nineveh and Muthanna. He stated,
“The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Finance to
prepare the farmers’ dues within two weeks of delivering the crop, in addition to
allocating four billion dinars to Nineveh Governorate specifically,
to establish buildings, warehouses, and four silos, in addition to
preparing new storage yards in all governorates to accommodate large quantities of the wheat crop and
achieve self-sufficiency.”". Nehme expected that
“the initial production volume of wheat will be six million tons after abundant rains and the farmers’ use of modern irrigation techniques, in addition to preparing to establish new silos during the next two years, confirming
the existence of strategic reserves exceeding two million tons of wheat that will meet the country’s need for the next six months.”. He revealed a
plan to
increase the storage capacity of the crop to nine million tons, in addition to
increasing the marketing centers for wheat within the governorates of Nineveh, Muthanna, and Salah al-Din, noting that
the relevant ministry teams have completed the process of linking and automating all government mills and the information center in Baghdad and the governorates at the ministry’s headquarters to control grain inputs and outputs.
The production of flour is monitored centrally to prevent tampering, stressing that
all private sector mills will be automated soon to control grain and flour production.”
