BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Member of Iraq’s National Coalition, led by Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, has said on Monday his Coalition had no objection to question Maliki by the Parliament, if that would take place within the constitutional framework.
“The National Coalition has no objection for the questioning of Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, by the Parliament, provided that the measure takes place within the constitutional framework, but if the issue of the questioning is linked to political considerations, there would be a constitutional objection to take such step,” Assadi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The open questioning of the Prime Minister and his cabinet ministers is the right of any Member of the Iraqi Parliament,” he said.
Al-Iraqiya Coalition’s MP, Haider al-Mulla, has stated on Sunday the intention of his Coalition’s Leader, Iyad Allawi, at his capacity as Member of Parliament, to present a demand for the Parliament to question Prime Minister Maliki in an open Parliament session, due to the violence carried out against demonstrators in central Baghdad’s al-Tahrir Square last Friday and the corruption, suffered by state institutions, as well as the continued security violations.
Al-Iraqiya Coalition’s Official Spokeswoman, Maysoun al-Damalouji, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency early on Monday that her Coalition intended to gather 25 signatures of Iraq MPs, to question Prime Minister Maliki, pointing out to the wish of MPs of the National Coalition to add their names and signatures on the questioning, according to the Iraqi Constitution.
Noteworthy is that Article 56 of the 10th Item of the Parliament’s Internal Regulations points out that “any MP, if he gets support of 25 MPs, has the right to demand the questioning of the Prime Minister and any of his cabinet ministers, to evaluate their activity, provided that the questioning would take place after 5 days of its presentation.
