Higher Judicial Council of Iraq denied, on Tuesday, having approved to transfer Iraqi Vice-President Tarek Al Hashemi’s case to Kirkuk. Hashemi’s case will remain in Baghdad, Higher Judicial Council announced noting that it will be examined by a judicial body of nine judges.
“Higher Judicial Council decided to retain Vice-President Tarek Al Hashemi’s case in Baghdad,” spokesman of the council Abdul Sattar Birkdar told Alsumarianews.
“Reports about a possible transfer of Hashemi’s case to Kirkuk are totally unfounded,” Birkdar added indicating that a judicial body of nine judges will be examining the case.
Interior Ministry displayed, on December 19, confessions of Hashemi’s bodyguards assuring that he personally charged them to execute assassinations and bombings in Baghdad in return of money. Based on these confessions, Higher Judicial Council issued an arrest warrant for Iraqi Vice-President Tarek Al Hashemi by virtue of article 4 of Anti-Terrorism Law.
Vice-President Hashemi didn’t leave Iraq following these confessions but assured, in a press conference he held in Erbil on December 20, that he is staying in Iraq and will reassume his post as soon as things get back to normal. Confessions displayed by Al Iraqiya Channel are faked, Hashemi uttered. I am ready to appear before court if my case was transferred to Kurdistan Region, Hashemi called swearing that he never had or will harm or kill anybody.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki warned Kurdistan Regional Government, on Wednesday, of allowing Vice-President Tarek Al Hashemi to escape calling the government to hand him over. All evidence against Hashemi are in the hands of Iraqi judiciary, Maliki indicated.
