BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: Basra governor called today the Iranian side to expedite implementing Greater Basra Water Project, according to media source here .
Governor Khalaf Abdul Samad met Japanese Charge d'Affairs, where both sides discussed the water project and to open a Japanese consulate in Basra to enhance relations with the province.
Media sources said that Governor Samad called upon the Japanese companies to participate in the reconstruction of the city which suffered from devastating wars of the previous regime.
The Japanese Charge d'Affairs pointed out that the previous visit of Premier Nouri al-Maliki to Japan was a success, stressing that Basra is one of the main economic cities in the area.
He added that "the Japanese companies try to work in the province, clarifying that there are five projects are done by them, including the rehabilitation of Um Qasr Port and some works in the Greater Fao Port.
