BAGHDAD - Baghdad Provincial Council has begun the construction of the first industrial city in the Iraqi capital.
Head of the Planning Committee at Baghdad council told AKnews that the construction started today.
The council has also formed a high committee to facilitate the legal and administrative procedures for the project, to supervise the construction of the city and to manage the transferal of industrial units from the Iraqi capital into the city.
The council announced in November last year its plans to construct a $250m (291bn IQD) city in Nahrawan district, to the south of Baghdad. The area is being built by the Iraqi company Majd al-Ard and covers approximately 2,000 donums (500 hectares). Construction of the environmentally-friendly city is due to be completed by 2013.
