ERBIL, May 3 (AKnews) - The reports that allege Iran and the US have pressed Kurdish, Iraqiya and Sadrist leaders to reach an agreement over the Iraqi crisis with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki are baseless, said a Kurdish official.
Leaders of the two ruling parties in the Kurdistan Region along with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani and Kurdistan's President Massoud Barzani met with Iraqiya List leaders Ayad Allawi and Osama al- Nujaifi as well as Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr on Saturday in Erbil.
One of the Kurdish leaders to Baghdad, who wished to remain anonymous, said that during the meeting the officials discussed the prospect of replacing Maliki, though not explicitly.
He added that the US and Iran are pressing these leaders to arrive at a solution, consensus and understanding with Maliki for the current crisis in the country.
As he had planned for, Barzani met with many of Iraq's political leaders in Erbil and all of the senior Kurdish officials in Baghdad to discuss the "perilous" situation Iraq is undergoing, said Falah Mustafa, chief for the Foreign Relations Office in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Mustafa said the leaders also responded to Barzani's call and conferred with him in Erbil so as to discuss solutions for the Iraqi issues.
He continued: "All the parties are aware of the positions of the Kurdistan Region president which source from the interests of the Kurdistan Region and the whole of Iraq.
"The countries of the world can only offer support for solving the issues but they can't exercise pressure on Iraqi political forces."
