TEHRAN, July 6 (KUNA) -- Iran's First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said on Wednesday his country was seeking to make Iraq its major trade partner in the future.
In statements quoted by Iran's official news agency IRNA, Rahimi, who is currently visiting Iraq with a high-level economic delegation, said Iraq is now Iran's third trade partner after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China, but Tehran wants to make Baghdad its top trade partner.
He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to increase the volume of its trade transactions with Iraq up to USD 10 billion in an initial stage and then up to USD 30 billion annually in the future.
During his visit to Iraq, the Iranian vice president is expected to hammer out several significant agreements in the fields of transport, industry, oil fields and transfer of energy and gas to Iraq and a possible Iranian gas pipeline to Syria and Lebanon via Iraq. (end) mw.mt KUNA 061148 Jul 11NNNN
