Mahdi Bajellan/It will be hearable if you called an alive man, but if he dead, it will be useless. This is how we will start the conversation about Baghdad.
Baghdad, Iraq's capital and the biggest city in Iraq and the second largest city in the Arab World -following Cairo-, and the second largest Asian city post Tehran, Iran's capital, it also considered the economic, administrative and educational center of the state built by the Abbasi Caliph Abu Jaafer al-Mansour during the 6th decade of the 8th century, it also was the capital of the Abbasi state, it enjoyed a significant role and became the scientific center of the world during those days, it also has a geographic importance due to its location on Tigris river.
Dar al- Salam , one of the names of Baghdad was a refuge of science demanders where there was al-Mustansiriah school, Baghdad was a residency of poets, writers and others it was the world's as well as Arab's cultural center for centuries.
Many foreigners called it as 'the planet of the east', the famous singer Fayroz chanted a song for this city, it was one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The first TV station in the Arab World was in Baghdad, as well as theaters and art centers, elderly enjoy the talk about Baghdad.
Who lived during the king's era can tell about the simplicity of life and how Baghdad was a city of the all wonderful things, i.e. the first social club inaugurated in the city in 1921, cinemas spread as wel as night clubs and concerts sites where well-known singers were singing i.e. Sadeqa al-Mullaya, Zakiya George, Waheda Khalil, Sultana Yousif, Zehor Hussein, Nadhim al-Gazali and Salema Murd..Social life was so gorgeous even post the revolution of July 14, the city was clean and beautiful.
It had been said that Baghdad will be the most beautiful capital in the Middle East, it had been said that it will be a typical city but the contrary occurred, since 2003 you can find entire neighborhoods in this city where there are no services, the city's streets blocked with cement barriers, it turned to a bad reputation city where drainage sunk its -once were beautiful- streets , garbage piled everywhere, an international organization registered it as the dirtiest city in the world, but its people kept on their hope to see their beautiful city again.
Is not it will be better to think how to turn the Iraq's capital to a more beautiful city than fabricating crisis between Baghdad and Erbil to turn the citizens' minds busy and disables capability to think about their duties.
Al-Rsheed St., where Ms. Bell once resided , turn nowadays o one of the worst and dirtiest streets and we gladly receive such news that Baghdad is the worst and dirties city in the world, this fact show us how officials are disable to clean this city. It is sad to say that this city considered the place where the highest numbers of journalists been killed, the highest number of qualified people and medics were migrated from, it is Vienna's reverse-counterpart, in term of dirtiness for the second time!!
