Baghdad, July 30 (AKnews) - Kuwait is willing to engage in negotiations to solve the crisis around the building of a port that Iraqis claim will restrict their shipping and steal business, a member of the parliament’s foreign relations committee said today.
Sami Askeri said: "The Kuwaiti government has showed willingness to resolve the Mubarak Port issue through dialogue and mutual understanding."
Iraq is expected to send a technical delegation to Kuwait soon to create the atmosphere for talks about the port, Askeri said.
Kuwait's willingness to negotiate comes after the government rejected a bid by Iraq to suspend work on the port. Iraq has said the dock would affect the country’s maritime activities. According to experts, Iraq may lose 60 per cent of its ports’ business upon the completion of Mubarak port.
