Britain to send unmanned aircraft underwater to the Gulf region
London UBI Guardian newspaper reported that Britain participated in sending 19 aircraft from unmanned underwater to the Gulf region to participate in a naval exercise to combat mines, with the increasing tension in the region between the West and Iran over its nuclear program.
The newspaper said that up to 40 countries will participate in the maneuver, which is the largest of its kind in the region, for a period of 3 weeks starting next week.
She added that Major General John Miller, commander of the U.S. Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain, will be responsible for maneuver with live ammunition in the waters of the Gulf, and stressed that it does not aim to provoke Iran.
Maj. Gen. Miller told the Guardian that the sea lanes in the Gulf represents a great importance to the global economy, it is necessary to deter states and terrorists attempts to lay mines to the fact that 20 of the world's oil supplies pass through every day.
He added that the maneuver Mine is the practice of defensive in nature and should not be a misunderstanding as the practice offensive in any way, intended to emphasize that a large number of countries from around the world will respond to any destination put mine in the Gulf waters, and we expect the Navy Iranian monitor progress closely maneuverability.
Maj. Gen. She added that these compounds are able to hunt down and destroy mines planted on the seabed or floating, and stay in the water for a much longer period of divers.
