BAGHDAD / follow the obelisk: Western officials said Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told the U.S. administration this month that Iran is interested in direct talks with the United States over Tehran's nuclear program.
Maliki said during a meeting earlier this month with the U.S. ambassador in Baghdad that he conveyed a message from Iranian officials, and stressed that the Iranian president next Hassan Rohani will be serious about any discussions with the United States, according to reports reported on Friday, the newspaper "New York Times" of America .
Although al-Maliki pointed out that contact with the aide to the supreme leader of the Iranian revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, however, did not reveal the exact about the people who had to deal with them on the Iranian side.
And Foreign Ministry officials declined to comment on the U.S. move by Maliki or steps that may be taken by the United States in response.
U.S. officials have said since the beginning of the Obama administration came to power, they will be open to direct talks with Iran.
