Baghdad (AIN) –MP, Hussein al-Shirifi, of al-Ahrar bloc within the Sadr Trend called the political blocs to adhere to the constitution over the compensative seats.
In a press statement received by AIN, he said “The political blocs have to adhere to the constitution and not to accept some of its articles and reject others where Article 49 of the constitution states that each seat of the parliament represents 100 thousand Iraqis according to the polling.”
“We are disappointed to hear that some blocs want to specify 75 votes for the compensative seats only which will result in suspending the participation in the elections by the citizens,” he added.
“Those blocs are violating democracy where there are more than 89 MPs signed to reject this issue which is the compensative seats,” he pointed out, noting that “I think that some blocs call for this issue due to their concerns over winning the elections.” /End/
