Kurdistan Region: Today, March 5, 2014, President Massoud Barzani, Kurdistan Region President, held a meeting with Kurdistan Region MPs in the Iraqi Parliament and high-ranking Kurdish officials in Baghdad.
The meeting aimed at discussing the pending issues and the conditions under which the Kurdish MPs and other officials will partake in parliament sessions and other government meetings. Moreover, the meeting also featured talks about future plans Kurds will implement inside the Federal Government.
According to reports, the meeting`s outcome was that a consensus was reached to Kurdish MPs to return to Baghdad, but not to take part in parliament sessions until the budget law draft is changed and the punishing articles concerning the Kurds are removed.
An official statement is to be released later regarding the contents of the meeting.
Worth mentioning, beside the Kurdish bloc, the Al-Mutahhidun bloc has also boycotted parliament sessions due to concerns about Anbar`s deteriorating security conditions, demanding Anbar`s officials to be brought in into the parliament for interrogation.
Latest reports indicate that the Al-Muttahidun will participate in tomorrow`s parliament session. If this is the case, the number of MPs in the session will reach the required number according to law and the current revenue law draft would be read and passed without consensus from the Kurds, the same as last year.
